For this project QuadConsult analysed and assessed the re-purposing of an existing steel work crushing plant including:

• Assessing the reduced load capacity taking into account fatigue and age
• Modifying the crusher base steelwork, strengthened and portalised the frames in both directions so vertical bracing could be removed leaving room for additional conveyors to be installed and increasing plant production.
• Working with 3D mapping technology and point cloud models to accurately assess the existing structure and connections
• Re-designing the hopper wingwalls for increased load and safety
• Adding a moment frame for a lightweight pecker arm to clear blockages
• Designing access steelwork and control room for the plant
• Large conveyor tower designs and the assessment of the conveyors.

This was one of QuadConsult’s Llandybie office’s first significant projects and has led on to a close working relationship with GMEC solutions and GD Harries.
