Between Worlds, English National Opera

Designers required an extremely thin bridge to span across the stage supported by wires suspended from the roof.

English National Opera staged the world premiere of an opera, telling the story of five people trapped in the World Trade Centre as the building burns and collapses around them, at the Barbican in London. The set designers required QuadConsult engineers to design an extremely thin bridge to span across the stage, supported by wires suspended from the roof. The bridge had a Perspex floor and steel beams, and was required to support performers during the opera. The bridge was constructed by Bay Productions in Cardiff and, as with many of these stage sets, the bridge was required to be able to be broken down into smaller components for transport, construction and storage.
