Vindpark Hultema, Östergötland County, Sweden
Substantial wind turbine site, substation, Civil and electrical works in south Sweden.
The impressive Vindpark Hultema is at Tjällmo, Motala Municipality, Östergötland County, Sweden, and comprises eleven wind turbine generators (model SG 6.6-155) manufactured by Siemens Gamesa with a value of €55m for BOP & TSA contracts.
QuadConsult’s initial contract was as site engineers for VKS (Vindkraft Sverige) under a Construction Project Management Agreement contract with VindPark Hultema and its investors. This involved observing and overseeing the Civil and electrical works on site executed by the contractor Svevia, plus substation construction and commissioning by long-term QuadConsult client Vattenfall. That scope was later extended from the construction phase into observing and supervising the installation and commissioning phase of the whole project.
The project was a major undertaking with many challenging aspects:
- It utilises two types of foundation – rock anchor and gravity
- All fill material was generated on site from blasting/cutting stone crushed on site to a prescribed specification
- In addition to the substation DNO works included a new 12km overhead power line
- For six months of the year (March – September) construction and turbine installation activities are limited as almost half of the turbines are inside a restricted zone due to the area being a rare bird breeding site, bringing significant challenges to programmes.
