Cumberhead Wind Farm

Cumberhead is a robust, streamlined construction, with reduced import volumes through reuse of site-won materials, and structures detailed for durability, inspection and safe operation.

QuadConsult were the lead engineers for Cumberhead Wind Farm comprised of 20 × Nordex N149/5.X TS125-04 turbines (125 m hub height) delivered with A E Yates for Scottish Power Renewables. We provided full civil and structural design, including wind-turbine foundations, a steel portal-frame substation with a reinforced-concrete basement and external compound, access tracks and crane hardstands, auxiliary transformer/kiosk bases, site drainage, and SEPA-regulated crossings with application support.

Our approach balanced buildability, cost, optimised foundation geometry and rebar densities, clear pour sequencing and hold points, swept-path and crane-pad design for efficient logistics, and a multi-stage drainage strategy (cut-off ditches, filter drains) SEPA crossings were sized for hydrology, climate allowances, with scour protection detailed and regulator queries managed.

The result is a robust, streamlined construction, reduced import volumes through reuse of site-won materials, and structures detailed for durability, inspection and safe operation.
