Steve McCarthy – BEng(Hons) MSc CEng MICE MCIHT

Steve has over thirty years’ civil engineering experience specialising in highways and drainage infrastructure, and has particular expertise in the design and implementation of Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems applied in residential, commercial and industrial developments. As a director in QuadConsult Limited Steve has responsibility for leading and developing the company’s civil engineering business line.

He has worked for local government in highways, traffic, and development departments, but predominantly his career has been with engineering consultancies ranging from five to over fifty-five thousand staff. Steve has managed a number of high profile projects such as the LG Semiconductor factory in Newport, and several large retail parks including Cardiff City Stadium, Cyfarthfa, and Blackwood throughout South Wales.

Steve began his career with Ideal Homes (now Persimmon Homes) before working for South Glamorgan County Council. He moved on to become project engineer then Associate at White Young Green, where he attained chartered status. He subsequently moved to become Director responsible for civil engineering at a South Wales-based consultancy in 2008.

Steve has served as Chair on the Elected Members’ Sub-Committee of the Institution of Civil Engineers and has written for the ICE Wales publication ‘Connect’. He has also taken the role of Supervising Civil Engineer, acting as mentor to graduates seeking chartered status within the Institution.
