Chris Usher – BSc(Hons) CEng FIStructE MICE AaPS

Chris is a chartered civil and structural engineer with over twenty-five years in practice since graduating from the University of Wales, Swansea. Chris has joint responsibility for all civil, structural, and CDM commissions, in addition to business development and management functions.

Chris began his career with the BBC’s Mast and Towers division, then moved to a structural steelwork fabricator as design manager. Following this he went into consultancy and worked as a chartered structural engineer for MRM Partnership (now part of Parsons Brinkerhoff), Clarke Bond Partnership, and a South Wales-based consultancy where he became Director of structural engineering. When he joined PMSS, a consultancy specialising in renewable energy, as the company’s Director of civil and structural engineering, it was to further his long-standing interest in sustainable construction.

Chris is a past Chairman of the Wales Branch of the Institution of Structural Engineers where he used ‘Sustainability in Structural Engineering’ as his theme, and he has sat on the Institution’s Sustainability Panel which provides guidance to the profession. Until recently he was an external examiner for the University of Glamorgan (now part of the University of South Wales), and he is currently a Civil Engineering Advisory Board Member for the Universities of Swansea and South Wales.
